STUDENT CREATIVE NEWSPAPER AWARDS : Next stop Singapore

AdMedia,  Jun 1, 2007

A tactical newspaper ad produced in 48 hours won Axis Adschool student Angela Trbuhovic the $500 NZ Herald prize at these NAB student creative awards, with the judge, APN Publishing's Geoffrey Dickman, commenting Trbuhovic had cleverly tied together the anti- smacking debate with Freedom Air.

The product launch section of the comp was a close contest between students from AUT and Axis, with Axis team Duncan Mcrae & Matt Weavers edging out two AUT teams, Vincent Sherry & Harry Singh and Mike George & Aditya Mehta.

Close to 100 entries from both schools were considered in both legs of the event.

The judges (DraftFCB's David Brady, Saatchi's Dave Govier and Y&R's Joe Craig) said the works showed "a clear understanding of the brief by linking a strong idea into the newspaper medium". They said were impressed with the high standard and fresh thinking, adding that some of the ads "could be run tomorrow".

The work of all four teams was on show at the Axis Awards, and will now be sponsored by NAB into the Singapore Crowbar Awards and the Australasian YoungGuns Awards, and will appear in this month's AdMedia What's New section and at www.nabs.co.nz.
