NTT West Deploys Optical Fiber Network for Multi-channel Video

NTT West began September 14 offering a new video distribution optical fiber network for use for multi-channel video transmission services.

The new network enables simultaneous transmission of video content over up to 400 channels (MPEG-2 video compressed at 6Mbps).

The NTT regional company initially offers the service in the Osaka metropolitan area, and will gradually expand the service area.

The company charges telecom carriers a base fee of 2,880,000 yen ($26,182) and an initial fee of 800 yen ($7.27) per subscriber.
