NEC Personal Products Acquires ISO 14001 to Boost Environmental
JCNN News Summaries - Japan Corporate News Network, Nov 24, 2004 by Dale Hug
NEC Personal Products (TSE: 6701) now has all of its 39 domestic facilities ISO 14001-certified by the Japan Quality Assurance Organization (JQA). The company has recently received 14001 certification for its main office and 34 sales offices.
The company's environmental activities include the development and sale of PCs and peripherals, which comply with Eco Symbol, NEC's unique certifying label given to the products satisfying the industry's severest environmental criteria, as well as the provision of information on such products. The company also sells recycled PCs in an effort to achieve effective use of natural resources and reduce environmental load.
The NEC subsidiary also handles more than half of the user inquiries about their PC problems through its phone counseling service, which helps eliminate necessity to transport repair tools and kits thus reducing the cost of packing materials.
The company has been offering its 1,400 employees, including the main office staff and sales staff, online education about environmental knowledge since May 2004.
