Epson Announces New Display Controller for OLED-Based Car Audio
JCNN News Summaries - Japan Corporate News Network, Feb 18, 2005 by Dale Hug
Seiko Epson (TSE: 6724) has announced the development of a display controller geared toward the growing market for car electronics and amusement systems with organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays.
The new product - the S1D13702 - offers improved functionality over its predecessor the S1D13701, which has been well received by car manufacturers since volume production began in 2004. The new product supports OLED panels with 260,000 colors, fast response speed and overlapping displays. When used with 256 dot x 64 line x 6bpp (260,000 colors) panels, the controller chip supports fast-moving video images. Designed to minimize the burden on the CPU, it also contributes to easier design by making OLED systems simpler and lowering costs.
The company plans to start shipping samples shortly, and to begin volume production this summer. Samples are priced at 1,000 yen each before tax.
