NTT Data, Others Conduct RFID Tag Experiment

JCNN News Summaries - Japan Corporate News Network, Aug 5, 2005 by Aki Tsukioka

Tokyo, Aug 5, 2005 - (JCN) - NTT Data, Keio University, the Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM), and Toyo Seiki conducted a joint experiment with RFID tags for use in the production process at Toyo Seiki's plant between March 14 and 25.

The purpose of the trial was to demonstrate how to visualize the flow of goods produced and production information in real time and verify the effectiveness of such a process. NTT Data's information system, Keio's theoretical and empirical analysis techniques, and JIPM's production expertise were provided to the experiment.

As expected, it was proven that RFID tags were effective in swift response to changes in order flows since they allowed the flow of goods to be dynamically visualized, thereby increasing efficiency in the manufacturing process.

The plant workers involved in the experiment commented on the experiment favorably.
