Benesse Corporation Announces Results of Attitude Survey of Child-

Tokyo, Oct 7, 2005 - (JCN) - Benesse Corporation announced a survey result on child-rearing on October 5. The company's think tank Benesse Educational Research Development Center surveyed about 3,000 parents living in the Tokyo metropolitan area in March 2005.
Compared with the previous survey conducted in 2000, the bedtime for infants becomes earlier while average hours of watching TV, videos and DVDs are reduced to 3.49 hours per day. About 57.5% of the respondents' children take some sort of enrichment lessons, increasing 8.1% from the 2005 survey.
Further, 80.9% of the respondents answered that their children frequently play with mothers. In the meantime, the participation of fathers in the housework and child-rearing tends to remain the same; only the cooperation in daily garbage disposal showed a rise: from 42.8% in 2000 to 53.3% in 2005.
