KDDI Launches World's First Mobile Phone for 'One Seg' Terrestrial

Tokyo, Dec 20, 2005 - (JCN) - KDDI has launched sales of the world's first mobile phone for use with "One Seg" terrestrial digital TV broadcast service for cellular and mobile phones.

The W33SA, manufactured by Sanyo Electric, features a wide (16:9) 2.4 inch QVGA large screen LCD with a clear non-double image picture and noiseless sound and capable of receiving data broadcasts providing a variety of information about TV programming.

The new handset comes replete with functions for watching television, such as compatibility with TV programming guides and an infrared function that can be used as a remote control.

The unit is also compatible with KDDI's "Hello Messenger" for real- time text, photo, and audio communication , and "Chaku Uta Full", enabled with SD-Audio music data with 3D surround sound and a music player for recorded FM radio.
