Tokyo, Mar 17, 2006 - (JCN) - Hitachi announced on March 16 that Fukuoka Bank has adopted its proprietary finger vein authentication system and will begin offering a biometrics service for customers on March 20.

The bank will issue arecore card, a cash/credit card that supports the finger vein authentication system, and Biometrics IC cash card, to its customers, and replace all of its automated teller machines (ATMs) with Hitachi's finger vein authentication system terminals.

With this move, the bank aims to improve the identity verification procedure and ensure safer use of ATMs. This is the first time that a finger vein authentication system has been deployed by a regional bank in Kyushu, the southernmost of Japan's four major islands.
