Pfizer Japan Announces Results of Attitude Survey on Oral Health

Tokyo, May 30, 2006 - (JCN) - Pfizer Japan conducted an attitude survey on oral health of 103 dentists, 103 dental hygienists, and 108 people from the general public via the Internet on May 11 and 12.

The results show that many of the respondents are concerned about periodontal disease. There is, however, a big gap in oral care efforts among the three groups. While the majority of the dentists and dental hygienists, 79.6% and 87.4%, respectively, care their teeth thoroughly, only 29.7% of the general public take such care.

Only 15.7% of the general public believe that they can keep 20 or more of their own teeth when they turn 80 years old. Meanwhile, 71.8% of the dentists and 82.5% of the dental hygienists answered that they have confidence in keeping their teeth healthy even when they get older.

Regarding patient awareness of oral care, both dentists and dental hygienists mentioned that it has been improved over the past several years.
