KDDI R&D Labs Develops XML Data Codec Software for Cellphones
JCNN News Summaries - Japan Corporate News Network, Sep 11, 2006 by Aki Tsukioka
Tokyo, Sept 11, 2006 - (JCN) - KDDI R&D Laboratories has developed XEUS (XML document encoding with uniformed sheet), software for encoding XML data at a high compression rate and decoding it on a handset using low-power memory.
XEUS enables the sender to verify the validity of data and convert data formats when compressing data, the tasks that are typically handled by the receiver handset, thus achieving decoding at high speed.
The compressed binary data is treated as Linux and Windows libraries as well as an Apache module, and the decoded data is treated as BREW and Windows libraries.

KDDI and Okinawa Cellular will use XEUS for EZ News Flash, a new broadcast/multicast service the carriers will provide on fall/winter handset models for their au cellular services starting in September.
