BREW HAVE SUNSTROKE

PUB drinkers and staff suffered burns after sunbed lights were fitted behind the bar instead of normal bulbs.

The manager apparently mistakenly installed powerful ultraviolet lamps usually used in tanning salons.

And those who stood under them for hours needed hospital treatment for sunburn and dizziness.

Barman Morgan Smith suffered severe burns to his neck and a barmaid was also left in agony. Morgan's sister Emma Smith, 21, said: "He was all dizzy and couldn't see because of the brightness.

"His neck started peeling and nobody could believe he got sunstroke behind a bar."

Customers also suffered burns after propping up the bar all night in The Pub in the Square at Buckie, Banffshire.

Manager Emma McLean was said to have changed the old bar lights and the mistake was only discovered when staff started going dizzy.

It is understood the pub owners could now be sued.

A local said: "A lot of people are angry about it. I've been told there will be a few compensation claims."

Pub manager Emma said: "My boss is carrying out an investigation into it now.

"One girl was quite badly affected by it. I don't want to say anything else."
