`Death trap' firm fined

A tanning studio has been fined after hiring out "death trap" sun beds.

Now other suspect companies will be probed.

Trading standard officers posing as sunbathing fans took two hired canopies home from Golden Brown in Gorbals, Glasgow.

And they found potentially-fatal flaws - including loose nuts and bolts - and no manufacturer's instructions or warnings.

The company, operating as Elite Leisure (Scotland), were fined pounds 2,000 on two safety charges.

Councillors last week saw a report describing the beds as death traps and promised that other studios now face tough inspections.
